We all hate to think about it, but what would we do if we had a real emergency. It might not be a Bomb or a Spectacular Computer hack or Computer Virus nor a massive Snowstorm or Flood, but life can be testing at times!
Business Continuity, DR, Planing and Testing.
First of all, take some time out your current schedule, think and document a plan of action, should you not be able to access your normal building or workplace or home, for whatever reason. Keep it simple and easy to remember. This solution is for You and your faimily, possibly and as much as your customers. It should be easy to follow and remember for you and your family /staff
Scenario: You or your supplier/customers cant get their office or home, due to Road Closure or Transport failures, around your workplace or your suppliers.
Issues: No access to work/sleep, Potential loss of Business or Delays in communication as you cant see and reply to Customer / Suppliers or Family contacts, Orders, Email, Post.
Unavailable Services: You cant receive calls on Landline Telephone number, IT Equipment not accissable, Critical Company Files including accounts, payments systems, leger, Bank or credit Cards or even the Insurance company contact details !
Plan of action: Keep Calm. Try and resume partial service or home within 12 Hours and minimise delays and inconvenience to all Family, and Business Suppliers or Customers.
INVOKE DISASTER RECOVER PLAN ( if you have one and its been tested..at least once! ) Tell everyone what happening! Remember to stick to the plan and keep records of all issues and resolutions. Keep communicating with all parties involved until things calm down.
