Eastbourne is a seafront town under Eastbourne Borough Council, built around a long Victorian promenade and pier, with the town centre and Old Town lying inland towards the foot of the Downs. The University of Brighton closed its Eastbourne campus in 2024, moving its courses to Falmer, so higher-education IT demand in the town is now limited to schools and colleges rather than a resident university department. Eastbourne District General Hospital, run by East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, sits on King’s Drive on the north side of town.
Three miles from the centre, Sovereign Harbour combines a marina and housing with the Sovereign Harbour Innovation Park, including the Pacific House business centre, alongside the separate Sovereign Harbour Retail Park. Inland, the borough backs onto Polegate and Hailsham, and much of Eastbourne’s housing stock is retirement-age bungalows and flats, which shapes the volume of home computer and printer support the town generates.
Tips for Eastbourne
- Eastbourne Borough Council covers planning and local business queries for the town, separately from Wealden District Council just to the north.
- Sovereign Harbour Innovation Park and Pacific House, near the marina, are the main modern office space away from the town centre.
- Eastbourne District General Hospital, on King’s Drive, is run by East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
- The seafront and Old Town have steep hills and one-way streets around Meads, worth allowing for when routing a call-out.
